Children can have a 'job experience' in this
6,000-square meter facility.

There' a hospital, restaurant, fire station, bank, and

Check can be exchanged at the bank, and Kidzos
can be spent on goods from the department store or
services such as car rental, or they can be deposited
into a bank account.  If the child chooses to open a
bank account, he/she will receive a cash card that
can be used to withdraw Kidzos from the ATMs.

At the first Pavilion they visit, the children
will write their name on a name tag.
This is the name that they will use when they introduce
themselves to their group-mates during the activities.

After an explanation of the Activity rules,
each child will be given a role.  They will then put on
uniforms, and the Activity will begin.
When they finish the Activity, they will receive their
salary in Kidzo's.

Ninja were persons skilled in special military techniques,
active in feudal days.  The main principles of Ninjutsu
(the art of stealth), are found in Sun-tzu, an ancient
Chinese book on warfare.  They were modified and
developed independently in Japan.  Ninja formed
communities in some areas, the most famous being Iga
(Mie Prefecture) and Kouga (Shiga Prefecture).

Ninja were most active during the Warring States
(Sengoku) period of rivalry between regional powers.
They secretly investigated the strength and strategy of
the enemy, destroyed their weapons and assassinated their
leaders.

They used techniques such as sneaking into a
castle by disguising themselves and escape by making
themselves invisible to the enemy.  To do so, they
employed techninques for walking on water, hiding in
water, scaling high walls, walking silently and vanishing
instantly.  They are all based on the psychological tactic
of catching the enemy unprepared.

They learned those tricks through oral transmissions
and inn strict confidence from outsiders.  Because Ninja
were a special class of secret agents for those in power.

There are some restaurants in Tokyo with waiters wearing
'Ninja costume',  inside of the restaurant, it is like a
house of Ninja!

June 11, 2007

Sacred Fuji, 3,776 meters high, is not only Japan’s
tallest mountain, but has been cherished by the
Japanese since antiquity for its beauty as well.

Mt. Fuji is indeed an appropriate symbol of Japan.
On the border between Shizuoka and Yamanashi
prefectures, its handsome form can be seen from
Tokyo in winter when the air is clear.

Mt. Fuji is a volcano.  Its symmetrical cone was formed
by eruptions repeated over tens of thousands of years.
Although it has been dormant for the past 300 years,
a future eruption is said to be inevitable.

Since ancient times, fear of Mt. Fuji’s eruptions has gone
hand in hand with veneration.
From the middle ages on, belief in Mt. Fuji spread, and
Asama shrines dedicated to the mountain deity were
erected in various regions.  Lodgings were built on the
mountain in the Edo period, and people climbed it with
fellow-members of religious associations.
Thus the tourist practice of climbing Mt. Fuji today
originates in a religious belief.

There’re cabins open in summer, and the average person
can climb Mt. Fuji.  It's a pretty tough climb but there's a
road to the halfway point, and a number of paths from
there to the top, so even a family can make it if they take
their time climbing.  Still the air is thin, so you have to watch
out for altitude sickness.  And summer nights are as cold as
cold as Tokyo in winter with even snow occasionally, so
please make sure to be properly equipped.

Many people climb at night to reverently watch the
sunrise from the summit.  At night the path is a glowing
stream of climbers' flashlights.  If you begin the climb
in the afternoon, nap in a mountain cabin, and then start
walking again before dawn, you reach the top just before
sunrise.
