OTAMESHI CAFE

coffee cup

The other day, I was watching TV news and heard a
new word 'Otameshi Cafe'.  'Otameshi' means 'Trial'.

Trial Cafe?  What is that

cafe_1

It is a cafe with something you can 'try' and have a
cup of coffee or light meal.

First, they introduced a cafe opened in April
in Shinjuku.  The name of the cafe is "chair cafe".

When you enter this cafe, there are only tables, no chairs!
Then you find a good rang of chairs displayed near the wall.

You can try any chairs and choose the one you feel comfortable
to sit on.  Then order your drink, have a nice break.
If you really like the chair, you can purchase it!

There are some interesting designs such as antiques in 1930's and
the other one is transparent so it looks you are floating in the air!

Next cafe is "ATIC" in Omotesando.
You will find price tags on tables or even lightings.
It must feel like you are having a cup of tea in a hardware store.

The last shop on TV was called "Architect Cafe".
This is very interesting.  It's like a large showroom
with living area, kitchen, Tatami room, study room,
bathroom, and even has a meeting room.
There is a food court in the middle of those showrooms.

You can use the meeting room for real meetings,
and in a bathroom, you can have a foot-bath.

Any goods in the showroom such as computers and
kitchen items are all for sale.

Japanese popular general merchandising store
'UNIQLO' opened a new unique shop in Harajuku.
It is called 'UT STORE HARAJUKU.'.  (UT = Uniqlo T-shirt)

What is so unique about?

All T-shirts are sold in individual plastic bottles.
The way they display them is very interesting too.
They just look like bottles in a fridge of convenience store.
When you pull 1 bottle out, next one comes to the front.
There are about 500 different designs.

First you go inside of the shop, you will find
sample T-shirts displayed in the middle of the floor.

UT STORE

When you find your favorite design and size,
the sample T-shirt has a tag of rack number to tell you
where you can find the shirt in a bottle.

It has 4 levels, shops are from 1st - 3rd floors,
and the 4th floor is a gallery.  On the 3rd floor, you will find
computers which you can use to search your favorite T-shirt.
You can search by color and style, and it tells you
which floor you should go and find it!

It's fun just going inside and browse, so when you go to
Harajuku area, look for UT STORE!

100 yen shop (Hyaku yen shop)
is now everywhere and it's very popular.

Most of their goods are quite good in quality and
they don't look like it's only 100 yen.

The Daiso, the largest chain store in Japan,
has over 2,400 shops in Japan and 350 shops
in other countries.

You can find almost everything there, from a pen to
pasta sauce.

The other major 100 yen shop 'Can Do', some of the
stores are located upstairs of the supermarckets or
inside of big shopping malls.

There are now some competitors around as well.
They are 'Shop 99', and 'Down Town 99'.
Yes, their price is 99 yen!
But not everything.  They do sell Obento lunch box for
around 300 yen.  So please check the price before
you pick up things.

It's fun just going inside and have a look, you might
end up coming out the shop with bags full of goodies!!
